
Magnesium-doped lithium niobate crystals have excellent electro-optical and nonlinear optical properties, good mechanical and chemical properties, wide transmission band, high laser damage resistance and easy to grow into large-size crystals, and have unique advantages in integrated optics and optical waveguide applications.
When 5mol%MgO is added to lithium niobate crystals, the laser damage threshold of the MgOCLN crystals grown can be increased by 2 orders of magnitude, the red shift of the OH-absorption peak to 88375px-1, the ultraviolet absorption edge to 310nm, and the polarization reversal voltage from 21KV/mm to 6KV/mm. These changes have greatly expanded the application range of LN crystals.
