The magnesium fluoride crystal has very excellent transmittance and low refractive index in the range from 110nm in vacuum ultraviolet to 7.5μm in infrared, which makes the refractive index loss of the crystal very low. The 121.6nm crystal has a transmittance of about 60% and does not produce a color center. Magnesium fluoride crystals have both wide spectral transmission range and birefringent properties. The crystals are widely used with various optical components such as Windows, mirrors, lenses, prisms, polarizers, wedges and substrates.
